A Guide to Decorating Your Fireplace Mantel for Christmas

I am SO excited to be kicking off the holiday season! This year has been something else, and I think we all deserve to go all-out with our home decor.

I’ve been seeing so many inspiring ideas lately, and I wanted to pull together some trends that are perfect for the fireplace mantel. So often, this spot gets overlooked or is just for stockings, but it has so many creative possibilities. These ideas will add so much drama and a beautiful second layer to your room.

Focus on the Garland

I love the idea of adding a snow sparkle display to your garland. It really enhances the room and creates such an enchanting display.

It seems like DIY is everywhere right now, with more and more people making their own décor. Honestly, I think creating your own garland sounds like a really fun idea.

The most important thing is making sure the garland is large enough to cover the entire top of your mantel. Once you have that foundation, you can just keep adding to it.

Think Christmas bulbs, little ornaments, or any other tidbits you love. Just add enough so that your mantel becomes the absolute main focus of the room.

White and Bright

When you pair your white pieces with silver, it just enhances that simple, airy showcase. So beautiful.

Maybe a room full of bright, loud color just isn’t your style. That’s totally fine! This is where a white and bright showcase really shines.

The whole idea is to work with multiple different shades of white and silver, displaying them all together. You want to create this really uniform approach and let that be the main statement.

I love this look. You can add a few light fixtures, and the room will feel so charming, all without going overboard on color.

Graphic

A bold black statement just works. I’d also add some greenery to really showcase the Christmas decor appeal.

I am in love with this look! Get a black statement piece and place it right in the center of your mantel. What this does is force everyone’s vision to go directly to that one piece, and then they can slowly discover the rest of the décor.

I’d add in some bits of gingham pattern and a little silver. To complete the whole look, just pair it with a few wood bits.

Don’t forget Candles

I love bringing in candles that are in multiple different sizes and textures to showcase the room in a minimal approach.

Whether you’re trying to create a welcoming vibe or you just want a cozy approach, candles are always the way to go. The trick here is to use candles in a multitude of different sizes.

Doing this will make your whole display feel more cohesive and symmetrical. When you’re focusing on smaller decorative items like candles, symmetry is really important.

If you want a bolder touch, use bold candle holders. This helps create a visual focus for the room.

Try a display of Colors

To really make an impact with your colorful appeal, try blending in shades of white. This is such a smart idea because it makes the room feel open and airy while blending bold hues.

Most of us, myself included, usually lean toward hues of red, green, white, and pastel blue. But this year, I think it’s fun to consider going a little out of the box.

This just means using an array of hues and really experimenting with them. Go for shades of pink, purple, and even yellow! It brings such a unique display that feels bold and daring, but is still totally festive with a twist.

Lights & more Lights

The more lights you add to your display the grander the appeal your display will have. It’s all about enhancing the room and showcasing what you have to display.

So, you have everything you need on the mantel, but you feel like something is missing? The answer is almost always simple: lights. During the Christmas holiday, I swear, light fixtures can fix just about anything.

You’ll want to work with multiple sizes of lights and just let them become the main focus. This is about creating a bold approach for your mantel. I love using lights that can be easily woven throughout the entire room without missing a beat.

Farmhouse Cool

There’s something about farmhouse decor that feels brand cozy and fresh. I love pairing your farmhouse bits with classic wooden signs to further showcase the appeal of the room.

You don’t have to do everything in red and green. Sometimes you can go the neutral route and it’s perfectly fine. It’s really all about finding a compromise for the appeal you want in the room.

Farmhouse is one of those decorating styles that I think is so fun, yet also minimal and chic. Work with those classic green appeals. It adds a cool aspect that makes your mantel feel as clean as possible, but still with a little hint of country.

Minimal Display

When keeping it minimal, think about adding a few minimal tidbits and displaying them in an open, spaced fashion.

The key here is to play with a unique color but keep the overall look minimal. The idea is to work with greenery and let it become the main appeal of the room, but without taking away from that unique color you’re using.

We recommend using a color that is completely out of the box and adding it in small doses. This creates a touch that is just inevitably charming.

Glitter Me, Please

If you’re ever in doubt about what to add, just bring in glittery Christmas balls. You can display them with other unique pieces.

When in doubt, just consider glitter. Glitter is such an excellent accent bit. It’s not only bold enough to make a statement, but it will instantly make any space feel more glamorous.

There’s just something about having glittery bits that will boost the appeal of whatever decorating style you have displayed. I suggest using glitter items that have a metallic finish to make sure your display feels chic and stylish. It’s all about the style of the display, while also being unique and engaging.

Graphic Prints

The bold aspect of having a graphic print will instantly make the room have a chic, modern approach

When it comes to graphic prints, you really want to get creative and bring in charming messages that will emphasize your décor. It’s about emphasizing your décor with these prints.

You never want to take away from the current décor that you already have; you simply want to add to it. My favorite way to do this is to fill the top of your mantel with these prints and just allow them to be the main focus of that particular space.

So when it comes to decorating your mantel, are you all about color? Or do you find yourself drawn to a more minimal approach?

I would LOVE to know how you will be decorating your mantel this year. Share with us in the comments!
