Hi you guys! I’m so excited about a new outdoor project I’m working on! I am finally planning a much needed fire pit for our backyard, yay!
I have gathered all of my inspiration photos to get the process started so I wanted to share all of the details with you. My hope is to show you some amazing designs and help you envision a space before you dive into the actual planning and building.
A Do-It-All Space
If you have a smaller backyard, you might think a fire pit is out of the question since they can take up a good bit of room. Instead of skipping the cozy warmth, consider making it a piece that does double duty.
What I mean is having a fire pit box that includes a gabion around it. I just love this idea! A gabion feature lets you have a multifunctional fire pit because when the flames are going, it can also be used as a handy table. Genius!
Comfort is Key
To create that perfect, inviting atmosphere, the seating is just so important. You want everyone to feel comfortable and be able to enjoy the warmth coming from the fire pit. The whole point is to have a feature that truly enhances your backyard, not takes away from it.
You should also think about using lounge furniture for the seating area, like a big comfy sofa instead of more formal chairs. This creates such a calming, peaceful space that I just adore.
Go For a Modern Look
The great thing about having a fire pit is being able to craft those memorable moments by the fire. They are so versatile that you can really create whatever ambiance you are looking for.
Pull together a few colorful chairs and a modern fire pit, something like a chimenea, to put together a seriously modern vibe.
Portable is Perfect
I get it, committing to a fire pit can be a little difficult because of the permanent installation they usually require. But if you want a fire pit without being tied down to one spot, a portable one will absolutely get the job done.
I love that portable fire pits let you create that calming atmosphere whenever and wherever you decide to. Perfect!
Show Your Personality
Anytime you’re thinking about redecorating or adding new things to your home, I think it’s so important to pick pieces that show off your personality for everyone to see. And this totally includes your fire pit.
You do have to be a little selective with what pieces can stand the heat, but you have the option of topping your fire pit box with beautiful metalwork. You can also take your firebox to a whole new level by creating an intricate design right on it.
Keep it Natural
When you are picking out the material for the outside of your fire pit, definitely consider natural materials. Natural is just best because it is so easy to maintain and looks great with any decor you might pair it with.
Crushed stone is an amazing option for a natural look. Just mix it with some rustic furniture for a super warm and cozy setting.
Enjoy in Any Weather
You can place your fire pit right under a gazebo or a shaded area so you can enjoy it all year, no matter what the weather might be.
You might want to think about a transitional fire pit instead, just in case you change your mind about this idea later and want to move the fire pit to another spot. A girl can dream, right?!
Think About the Layout
The layout where you put your fire pit is so very important for your backyard design. If you happen to have a U-shaped seating layout, placing a rectangular fire pit in the center is a great move.
Doing that gives you a chic look while making sure everyone feels the heat that comes from it.
Play With Color
Fire pits can sometimes have a tendency to be in neutral tones like gray, black, or nude. Because of that, to bring some life to your backyard space, you should think about color.
I love that color is an excellent way to make any area look fun and airy. For your seating area, add colorful throw pillows and cushions to really enhance the space.
Go For the Drama
Okay, can we talk about making a statement? If you want to create a truly grand feeling in your backyard space, getting a firewall is the way to go. Instead of having a regular fire pit or a fire bowl, think about adding a firewall to your backyard.
I know a firewall is a big investment, but it will bring an extra dose of upscale, chic elegance to your space. Just gorgeous!
