Hi friends! I don’t know about you, but I just love being outside. There’s something so relaxing about it. But not everyone has a huge yard.
The good news is, a screened-in porch or patio can give you that same tranquil feeling! I’ve been looking for ideas, and I found some gorgeous ones. They are all so charming and modern and just feel peaceful. I had to share them with you!
1. Go with Neutrals
I am a huge fan of neutrals. There are just some colors that make a space feel alive, and neutrals are definitely it. I think they work in any size room, really.
You can use soft shades to be the main focus, or just let them make the room feel bigger. Just showcasing nude tones can make a space feel so much grander!
My advice is to bring in those soft neutrals, and then build on them with patterns or other accent bits to make it all feel complete and come to life.
2. Create a Second Dining Space
This is such a great idea if your home is a bit smaller and you don’t really have a dedicated dining room. If you have a screened patio, why not make that your dream dining space?
I mean, a screened-in area is just the perfect spot for a second dining room. It’s so cozy! I love that it lets you feel like you’re in two places at the same time.
You get that gorgeous view of the outdoors, but you don’t have to worry about annoying bugs or animals. Just pair a dining table with a really chic bench and you’ve got the whole look.
3. Go Big with Decor
Why not just go for it and be bold with your decor? If you’re lucky enough to have a bigger space, I’d totally consider bringing in some large-scale furniture.
Really expand on that idea of making your decor feel alive. You could turn it into a whole second living room or even a bedroom.
The main goal is just to make the room feel as grand as you can, while still working with what you have. Oh, and adding a sofa swing? That would make it feel extra comfortable.
4. Bring on the Greenery
You guys know I LOVE fresh flowers, and that love extends to garden flowers and plants! Even though a porch is an enclosed space, greenery is just an excellent addition.
I think it adds such a nice freshness and a pop of color right where you need it most. It’s completely up to you if you add just one or two plants.
My tip is to make sure you bring in plants that have some interesting texture, or find planters that do the same thing. I’ve also found that the bigger your planters are, the grander the plant itself will appear.
5. Add a Swing
A swing is one of those pieces that gives me a country feel right away. I’d add one to the patio and pair it with some cute patterned cushions. That gives it a really custom dose of character.
And if you pair that with a chic basket? You get the perfect rustic aesthetic.
6. Bring the Inside Out
I’ve always said, I don’t believe there should be any difference between indoor and outdoor decor! A screened porch is all about blending those two worlds seamlessly.
So why not bring those indoor vibes right outside and make it all one unified space? Go ahead and take classic furniture pieces, like a sofa, a pretty accent chair, or even a rug, and arrange them on your porch.
It creates a whole second seating area that just works. I’d also blend in flowers of different colors and sizes to really get that outdoor feeling, even while the indoor pieces are the main focus.
7. Create a Lounge
Your screened porch can just be the perfect oasis, a place where you just get to relax. To get that vibe, create a lounge space and make the room feel alive.
It’s really all about embracing the square footage you have and just going from there. Bring in a super comfy couch, a couple of chairs, or maybe a rocking accent seat.
Honestly, the more comfortable and inviting the space feels, the better! When in doubt, you can add a stool or two for extra seating.
8. Use Wood Elements
I’m a huge fan of wood. It’s just one of those materials that works so well anywhere in the home. I think it gives any structure a bit of charm, plus it’s chic and so easy to style.
For a patio or porch, you might want to use blonde wood. It’s very light, which makes it super easy to work with and pair with other pastel colors.
But then again, if you add darker tones, you get this great modern contrast that makes the whole room come alive.
9. Add Height
Okay, so what if your screened porch has low ceilings and you want to make it feel taller? It’s time to think about adding height and really expanding the space.
To do that, you can bring in light fixtures in a few different height ranges. This creates a staggering touch that gives the room an added dose of elegant height.
I love the idea of using fixtures in multiple finishes, too. That gives you a contrasting look that feels both unique and charming all at once. It’s all about making the room feel taller without adding a bunch of clutter.
10. Work with Colors
I’ve always loved color, and it can make such a huge difference, whether you’re a fan of minimal decor or have a more traditional space. There’s a little bit of a science to adding color to a porch, though.
The real key is to add that color in spots that feel a little dull or empty. For example, if you have one of those awkward corners and just can’t figure out what to do, it’s the perfect time to bring in some color.
Doing that instantly upgrades the room! It gives it a visual appeal that really brightens the whole space. You could also just add a plant for a dose of fresh green, which always works so well.
I hope this gives you some ideas about how you can transform your own screened-in porch! Which one is your favorite? Leave me a comment below.
