I don’t know about you guys, but I am always looking for ways to bring more green into my house. There’s just something about plants that feels so fresh and alive!

My sunroom is my favorite spot, but I’ve always been a little intimidated about loading it up with plants. What if I get it wrong? Well, I’ve been scouring for ideas and I am so excited to share what I’ve found.

This is all about making your sunroom a gorgeous green retreat, and it’s so much easier than I thought! From orchids and passion flowers to those amazing succulents and tough ZZ plants, there are so many options. We’re going to look at everything you need!

Keep it Cozy

Okay, so light is a big one, right? Some plants love a bright spot with medium to bright light, while others want much lower light. But I have to admit, I didn’t think enough about heat and humidity!

This is a huge part of keeping your plants happy and healthy. It’s even more important in those chilly winter months when the temperatures drop and the sun is hiding.

I’m totally planning to consider another heat source to keep things cozy and supplement the sunlight during those times.

This is just an exquisite way to use plants in a sunroom.

Fake it ‘Til You Make it

Are you totally nervous about taking care of a bunch of new plants? I get it! I do not have a very green thumb.

But here’s a great idea: you can still get that lush, green vibe in a unique fashion. Think about seat cushions with a tropical motif or a gorgeous wallpaper with big, leafy patterns. I love this!

Plus, there is the added benefit of those big glass windows in a sunroom, which already do so much work, bringing in the view of your yard and making the green landscape outside feel like part of the room.

You could totally couple this idea with just a couple of small, easy-to-care-for indoor plants to get started!

I love how this open design makes the greenery outside feel like it’s part of the room.

The Perfect Pot

You guys, the pot is just as important as the plant! It’s not just about allowing it to grow to its full potential; it’s a huge part of the style of the interior.

I love this part. If you have that contemporary, minimal, or modern look, sleek dark and polished pots are great. I’m a huge fan of rustic and farmhouse styles, so those classic terracotta and ceramic pots really fit in well with those traditional sunrooms.

You can even find ones with an intricate pattern and bright design to enhance the charm of a Mediterranean sunroom. And for all those little succulents and air plants? Those trendy small, hanging containers or planters with a geo design are just adorable.

All About Placement

Where you place your plants involves more than just aesthetics alone (though that’s the fun part!). You have to make sure the plant gets the right amount of sunlight and warmth throughout the year.

That’s what keeps it healthy and happy! The best part is, in a sunroom you usually have no shortage of natural light, which gives you greater decorating freedom.

But remember, some indoor plants grow better under direct light, while others need plenty of shade. A rubber plant, for example, will do well in the darker corners of the sunroom, while succulents and additions like the snake plant are superstars that thrive pretty much everywhere.

Match Your Style

Adding indoor plants doesn’t mean you just indiscriminately fill the room with loads of green.

I mean, that approach can work well if you’re going for a full-on tropical style, but I have to admit, too many plants can kind of take away from the style of the sunroom you’ve already created. You want to be intentional.

Make sure that the indoor flowering plants add to the color scheme of the room. And make sure the pots that hold the plants accentuate this look!

In contemporary sunrooms, for instance, all you might need are just a few, carefully placed plants in a corner to complete the perfect hangout.

I’m a huge fan of reclaimed wood, and it looks amazing in this rustic sunroom with just a hint of green.
Such a light and breezy sunroom design.
