Here’s a design that is so interesting and unique! You probably haven’t seen it in many places. If you have a garden, you definitely need a pathway so people don’t step on your flowers. This is where recycled logs come into play in a HUGE way.
I love this idea! You can use logs from different tree parts to get a beautiful variation in sizes. Just make sure the wood is sealed before you place it on the path. You could even mix in stones with the logs. So many possibilities!
Climbing Flowers on a Pergola
Pergolas are such a popular feature, and they are a great way to create a sitting area in the yard. They provide a nice light shade, which is perfect for when the sun is out and you don’t want to feel all that heat.
Because it’s a simple wood structure, you could even plan to build it yourself and save on labor costs. I’ve seen them extended right from the backdoor or built right in the middle of the yard.
Having flowers growing on a pergola is always such a beautiful sight. Plus, it’s a bonus if the flowers are sweet-smelling! Some of the best flowers for this are honeysuckle, clematis, and roses.
Flower Waterfall
We all love flowers, but if you’re looking for something really different for your garden, you have to try creating a flower waterfall. It’s such a creative idea! You just need a large flower pot that has one flat side.
Pick the perfect spot to place it, and grow flowers in the pot. The trick is to also grow flowers on the ground spilling out from it to create that gorgeous waterfall effect.
Trees in the Deck
Building a deck is one of my favorite low-maintenance landscaping ideas. What if you have a huge tree in your yard? That’s not a problem at all! You can actually build the deck right around the tree.
I love this because the tree can then serve as a beautiful form of shade. Just make sure you get the best builders for this job so your deck is sturdy and lasts for a long, long time.

Just like you choose a color scheme for your interiors, you can absolutely have one for your backyard! It’s such an inspiring time in design.
Yes, backyards are mostly gardens, but you get to pick the colors of the flowers that grow there. You can make sure all those blooms match your other accessories, like your chairs and tables, to really pull the space together.
Simple Table Umbrella Shade
I get it! You can’t always go big with a backyard project, especially if you’re in a rental or know you won’t be there long. This is one of the easiest and most stress-free ideas.
All you have to do is buy a table umbrella and set up some chairs around it. It’s such a quick and inexpensive way to update a space! The umbrella’s shade can be enough for four people.
If you have the space and expect more guests, you could even get two sets of umbrellas and chairs.

If you live somewhere with very little rain, trying to maintain a big lawn and flower garden can be a ton of work. In that case, it’s smart to choose a landscape design with less greenery and more hardscapes.
A large patio is a great place to start. I love the idea of mixing concrete flooring with pebbles. And for that little touch of nature, you can plant succulents! It’s a beautiful compromise.

A swing set in the garden is such a fun idea! And no, it’s not just for kids. I think adults can have just as much fun on a swing.
For a really great setup, the swing set can be attached to a pergola. This is such a smart idea because it makes sure you have plenty of shade.
Flower Bed with Brick Edging
This is a wonderfully simple and minimal design for a backyard. It’s an easy DIY project that would only take a few hours over a couple of days. I love that it’s also easy to take care of, especially since the rest of the yard can just be low-maintenance grass.
The idea is to set apart an area a few feet wide around the edges of the house and plant your flowers there. You use bricks to separate this area. You could grow flowers all in one color or use a beautiful combination to brighten the space.
